The Reds teams are active participants in the East Shore Travel League, a well-regarded baseball organization based in New Haven. This league primarily features teams from across south-central Connecticut, with the majority of league games conveniently scheduled at our home field, McNamara Field, situated on Wiese Road.
Player selection for our teams is conducted through tryouts, which are widely announced to the Cheshire Youth Baseball & Softball community via postings on the CYB website. Typically commencing after Labor Day, each team will host 3 or 4 tryout sessions, though some teams may opt for fewer. For comprehensive details and the most up-to-date information, please visit our dedicated Tryouts page.
The season for each team generally spans from early April through late June, potentially extending into early to mid-July. Post-season tournaments can further extend the playing period into the middle of July. During weekdays, teams typically play one or two games, with a similar or greater number scheduled on weekends. Teams prioritize practice sessions at least once a week, and more frequently if field availability permits. Furthermore, teams have the option to participate in non-league tournaments, with potential locations ranging from NY and NJ to DE, MA, MD, and even further afield. Considering the regular season, post-season play, and non-league tournament opportunities, each team anticipates playing between 25 and 40 games. While team managers strive to ensure equitable playing time for all players, it is important to understand that equal playing time is not guaranteed.
To prepare for the season ahead, Reds teams commence indoor workouts in January. These sessions are held at local school gymnasiums and privately-owned sports facilities within Cheshire. Private facilities are utilized specifically for hitting practice, as batting practice is not permitted within school gymnasiums. Winter workouts typically conclude as weather conditions become favorable for outdoor practice, which coincides with the beginning of the baseball season.
