How to Fast Travel Back to Camp in Red Dead Redemption 2: A Comprehensive Guide

Fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2 can be a bit unconventional. While you can unlock fast travel from your camp, the game doesn’t explicitly tell you How To Fast Travel Back To Camp Rdr2 after you’ve ventured out into the world. This can lead to long and sometimes tedious rides across the expansive map.

The lack of a straightforward return trip can be frustrating, especially for players who prefer to spend less time traveling and more time on missions. Thankfully, there’s a workaround to get back to camp a little faster.

Here’s how you can make your way back to camp without manually guiding your horse the entire way:

  • Set a Waypoint: Open your map and place a waypoint at your camp’s location. This will give your horse a destination to automatically navigate toward.

  • Engage Cinematic Camera and Auto-Ride: While on a road or path, hold down the run button (X on PS4 or A on Xbox One) and simultaneously activate the cinematic camera. This will prompt your horse to begin riding automatically toward your set waypoint.

If you choose not to set a waypoint, your horse will simply follow the road, which can still be helpful if the road generally leads in the direction of your camp.

Keep in mind a few important limitations:

  • Mission Restrictions: This method does not work during missions or while riding alongside non-player characters (NPCs).
  • Road Requirement: As far as we can tell, the auto-ride function only works when you are on a designated road.
  • Potential Encounters: Be aware that even in auto-ride, random encounters can still occur, requiring you to take control of your horse.

This workaround isn’t a perfect solution, but it can significantly reduce the amount of manual riding required to return to camp.

While this method offers a temporary solution, many players hope that Rockstar Games will introduce a more conventional fast travel option back to camp in a future update. Offering players a choice between immersive manual travel and convenient fast travel would cater to a wider range of playstyles and preferences, especially for those with limited time or accessibility considerations. A true fast travel system will definitely enhance player experience and offer a more fulfilling open-world adventure.
