Are Rockwood Travel Trailers Still High-Quality? Debunking the COVID RV Myth

It’s common to see online discussions warning people away from buying RVs manufactured during or shortly after the pandemic. Many claim that RVs built within certain timeframes are inherently inferior. However, as experienced RV enthusiasts, we at travels.edu.vn believe this is often a misconception, especially when it comes to brands like Rockwood.

It’s true that some manufacturers, particularly those focused on budget-friendly options or those with less robust quality control, might have experienced quality issues during periods of high demand. Some companies did ramp up production to meet the surge in RV interest during COVID, potentially leading to compromises in quality.

However, Rockwood Travel Trailers are a different story. From our observations and experiences, Rockwood maintained its established standards throughout this period. They didn’t compromise on their team or drastically increase production in a way that sacrificed quality. Our personal experience with a 2022 Rockwood Mini Lite was overwhelmingly positive – it was a dependable, trouble-free camper. Our current Rockwood trailer continues to uphold this standard. Comparing our recent models with a 2016 Rockwood, we haven’t seen a decline in quality.

In fact, we’ve noticed improvements in components and features in newer Rockwood travel trailers. This positive trend isn’t unique to Rockwood; other reputable brands have also maintained or even enhanced their quality. Therefore, the blanket statement that all RVs made during the COVID era are poorly built is simply inaccurate.

Having witnessed the Rockwood travel trailer construction process firsthand, we’ve been impressed by the meticulous attention to detail and the rigorous quality assurance measures in place. Rockwood employs a dedicated quality control team who meticulously inspect trailers at various stages of production. They use a color-coded tape system to mark areas needing attention, ensuring issues are identified and addressed promptly.

The thoroughness of Rockwood’s quality team is remarkable. They pinpoint even minor discrepancies that most people would likely overlook. Furthermore, Rockwood has a system in place for addressing recurring issues, ensuring continuous improvement in their manufacturing process.

Minor Annoyances, Not Deal Breakers in Rockwood Trailers

While our overall experience with Rockwood travel trailers remains excellent, there are a couple of very minor points we’d like to see tweaked. These are far from major flaws, but worth noting for potential buyers.

One minor issue is the placement of a USB outlet in the bedroom area on the roadside. While the inclusion of both USB 2.0 and USB-C ports is convenient, the bright green LED indicator on this outlet is quite noticeable, especially in a dark sleeping space. We’ve observed this same USB outlet in many 2023 RV models, suggesting it’s a common component across the industry. And yes, it’s really bright!

Another minor inconvenience is the location of the quick disconnect for the outdoor griddle. It’s positioned far underneath the RV skirting, making it somewhat difficult to access and operate. Connecting or disconnecting the griddle requires two hands and a bit of awkward maneuvering. While we appreciate the inclusion of a flat-top griddle with the trailer, a more accessible quick disconnect would enhance usability.

Rockwood vs. Flagstaff: Understanding the Difference (or Lack Thereof)

A frequently asked question is about the distinction between Rockwood and Flagstaff travel trailers. The truth is, the primary difference is simply branding. Rockwood and Flagstaff trailers are manufactured by the same company, Forest River, on the same assembly lines, using identical processes and materials. The only real differentiator is the name and associated badging.

Therefore, if you are considering a Rockwood travel trailer but don’t have a local Rockwood dealer, explore Flagstaff dealers in your area. The Flagstaff Micro Lite 22FBS, for example, is essentially the Flagstaff equivalent of a comparable Rockwood model. You can expect the same level of quality and construction in a Flagstaff trailer as you would in a Rockwood.

We firmly believe that Rockwood travel trailers are well-constructed, and their commitment to quality control translates to a superior camping experience. Our continued satisfaction with our Rockwood trailer reinforces our confidence in the brand. We anticipate many more enjoyable journeys with our trailer in the years to come.
