Staying at Shady Acres Travel Park was far from an ideal camping experience. While the office staff offered friendly service with discount coupons for local eateries and the convenience of an RV wash nearby was a plus, these small perks couldn’t mask the significant shortcomings of this park. The overall condition of Shady Acres Travel Park leaves much to be desired, making it a questionable choice for RV travelers.
One of the most immediate issues was the unkempt and dusty environment. The entire park felt dirty and neglected, creating an unpleasant atmosphere. Finding our designated site proved to be a challenge upon arrival. The site markings were unclear and poorly indicated. Arriving after dark would have made locating the correct spot nearly impossible. Adding to the disarray, our site was overgrown with weeds, littered with dirt and stickers, and generally unmaintained.
Further compounding the negative experience was the lack of functioning amenities. The lighting at our site was broken, plunging the area into complete darkness after sunset. Beyond the poor site conditions, the park was plagued by a severe mosquito infestation. Even a brief moment spent outside resulted in numerous mosquito bites, making it difficult to enjoy the outdoors. Although we were fortunate to have full hook-ups, the absence of Wi-Fi in 2016 was a notable inconvenience in this day and age.
In conclusion, Shady Acres Travel Park is hard to recommend. The park is in dire need of renovations and improvements, including basic landscaping, paved surfaces, and working utilities. For those seeking a comfortable and well-maintained RV park, even a Walmart parking lot might offer a more appealing dry camping option than Shady Acres Travel Park in its current state.
